Chinooks New England! members gathered at the home of Connie and Bob Jones in Portland, Maine for our first workshop together as Chinooks New England! We were dazzled by Bob's presentation that brought the Chinook Breed Standard to life before our very eyes. Utilizing their most recent litter, Bob demonstrated the components of a 4-5 week litter evaluation. He began with an overview of Chinook history and then walked us through the breed standard. Bob explained different conformation terms and showed how each term relates to the dogs body and the work they are intended to do. It was a captivating presentation followed by a lively discussion. What an important experience for anyone undertaking breeding, showing or trying to select a puppy. We were able to see examples of the breed standard components on different adult dogs. Then, we applied this understanding to the puppies. Bob demonstrated a series of tests, measures, and comparisons that determine the conformational strengths of each puppy. This workshop offered a great opportunity for us to learn from other's experiences.
