Our first event: A Great Success!
Wood Lily Farm, South Berwick, Maine, January 31, 1999.

It was an ideal Maine, winter day. A clear blue sky, 7" of new fallen snow and crisp air surrounded the first gathering of Chinooks New England! at Wood Lily Farm, the home of Karen and Rich Fass in South Berwick, Maine. People came from all over Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Throughout the day, 40 people and 30 dogs (19 Chinooks) made their way to the farm.

Tangles & Rangeley wait for their chance to hit the trail in one of the Fass' many kennels.

Nathan Jackson meets (and charms) Cheena & Baxter. The dogs just love these events!

Six sled-dog teams took a nice long run while folks cross country skied through the fields, snowshoed or walked through the woods and kids played on sleds. Later, about 20 dogs all had a blast playing in a field together. When much of the play was done, what else was there to do? EAT! In true potluck fashion, everyone pitched in culinary delights. Everyone relaxed indoors, out on the sleds or down by the fire on the edge of a stream. There was easy chatting and satisfied appetites while the dogs who had worked hard snoozed around the yard.

Karen & Danielle Jolie catch a ride with Bob Jones and the WoodsRunner team.

The after lunch, people got to try out sledding for the first time or to get a ride. The teams did well with their new drivers and the new drivers did well on their first drives. And then, ..... the puppy team took to the sled! The joy of the next generation coming of age. They made their human parents proud.
